Biography

My name is Jack Petersen, and I am a first-year graduate student in the Hartley lab. My mother has multiple sclerosis (MS), so I became involved in fundraising for the National MS Society (NMSS) once I started my undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University. Shortly after that, I fell in love with chemistry and quickly began to look for ways to combine these two passions of mine. I came to the conclusion that myelination research was the best way to do this and was introduced to Dr. Hartley by one of my professors. Now, I am using mouse models, mass spectrometry, and immunohistochemistry to investigate the role of cholesterol metabolism in myelin damage and repair.
